"The
Creeping Man" by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle
I
chose this book because when I was a child, I read "The Lost
World" and I liked it. Besides, I like reading mystery and
adventure novels.
I
have never read a Sherlock Holmes' novel, but I think I have watched
some films about him in TV, although I don't remember what films
I saw.
"The
Creeping Man" is one of the most popular of Sir Arthur Conan
Doyle's stories. It was first published in 1923 in Strand Magazine.
I
didn't like this book, it has been a
deception for me because I expected a more complex plot. I think
the book starts well and the plot promises to be interesting,
but after that, the interest of the book failed. There are very
summarized parts like the engagement to the Professor, that I
think is determinant for the behaviour of the professor.
The
characters are poorly described. I think it is possible that the
original novel is better than this, and the problem is the shortening
of this edition of the book.
On
the other hand, the worst of the book is the end. The problem
was that the professor took a drug which is obtained from the
monkeys, this drug gave him youth and strength but changed his
behaviour too and he behaved like a monkey. For this reason the
title is "The Creeping Man".
I
think it is a very naive point of view although it is in accordance
with the moment of publication, at the beginning of the 20th century.
