"Jane
Eyre " by Charlotte Brontë
This
novel seems to have autobiographic elements, at least in a psychological
sense. Charlotte Brönte had a complex character (independent, passionate, frail)
and a tragic family. She had to experience loneliness, emotional
deprivation, the nearness of death. All this was reflected on
her novel.
The most interesting things in the original novel
are, I think, the style of writing and how the author describes
the women’s life and mind in the Victorian period. Other frequent
elements in the literature from this period are the belief in
supernatural premonitions, the mystery, symbolism, the exploration
of emotions and the “happy endings”, according to God rules.
In an actual perspective, it is a good script
for a film, but it is too romantic, like a fairy tale: love,
tears and a too good ending.
In my opinion, in this simplified version we can’t
see the descriptions and the style of the author, but the CD
and the frequent use of phrasal verbs are very interesting for
learning.
