FAMILY RELATIONSHIPS

Precious and her father:

The relationship between them is very close, Precious's mother died when she was young. Obed loved her a lot, and treated her perfectly well, he worked a lot for her to have enough cattle to survive. Precious is the only child he has and probably that is why her father loves her that way. Precious loves her father too, for her he is the man she loved beyond all others.

Obed and his wife:

Obed was a good husband, he worked in the mines and sent all the money to his wife, he worked to sustain his family but one day his wife died hit by a train while she was crossing the railway.

The aunt and his husband:

They live in Obed's home, they seem to love each other but she can't have children, so after a few months he leaves her althought she had tried to give him children going to doctors and traditional healers, one of them almost kills her.

The aunt and Precious:

When the aunt is abandoned she focusses on her niece, she teaches her to read and write, she wants her to be an intelligent girl. Precious is for her like the girl she will never have, she allows her to sleep in her bed, she also sits beside her. For the aunt now her happiness is complete.

Precious and Note Mokoti:

He is a jazz musician, they met in a bus. She is in love with him, from the beggining he mistreats her, one day he gives her a beating and he leaves. She was preganant.

Precious and Matekoni:

He works repairing cars, they are good friends, they talk a lot and he asks her to marry him but she refuses though she says he would be a perfect husband. At the end of the novel they marry, but at the beginning, Precious acts as the typical person that bases the rest of his/her life in a bad experience of the past.

In general all the relationships between men and women are no good, we see how husbands have affairs and how they mistreat their wives.
